Too Much?

June 5, 2007

It’s nice when I surprise myself. Like today for instance.

I’ve been awaiting the latest edition of ‘The Ugly Tree’ poetry magazine for a while now, since some time last year even, if for no other reason than it features one of my poems.

Yet, truth be told, no matter how much I was looking forward to recieving the ‘zine, I couldn’t for the life of me remember exactly which poem it was that was being published.

So you can imagine my pleasent surprise when I finally got hold of my copy today, turned to the page with my poem and quietly said to myself: “I wrote that? Bloody hell, that’s awesome!”. The poem in question is called ‘Too Much’, and to quote caberet singers everywhere, it goes like this:

Too Much

Too many hours
And too little time
Two little powers
And too many crimes.
The cold light of day
Shines down on the men
Who journey each day
Onto the end

One little solution
For too many troubles
Hypocratic Revolution
Sees the corpses double
The bloodshed of war
Rains down on the men
Who bring us each day
Closer to the end.
